Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to announce that the Biochemistry Without Borders 2026: Annual Meeting of the Hungarian Biochemical Society (HBS) will take place this August 26th-28th at the University of Debrecen.
The official language of the conference is English. The scientific program will be organised along the following topics:
- Lipids and membranes – components, structure and function
- Genome organization, maintenance, functional genomics
- Bioinformatics, synthetic biology, genome engineering, biotechnology
- Molecular signaling, cell-cell communication, cell death and differentiation
- Molecular basis and tissue models of disease and therapy, stem cells, immunity and inflammation
- Protein structure, function and modeling, proteomics, intrinsically disordered proteins: prediction of structure, dynamics and interactions
- Regulation of gene expression, regulatory RNA, epigenetics
- Translational research, medicinal biochemistry, drug development
The scientific programme will be organised according to the traditions; a few plenary lectures followed by oral presentations running in parallel sessions. Abstracts selected by the Scientific Advisory Board are delivered as oral lectures; all other abstracts are presented as posters.
The list of confirmed speakers is growing, and currently includes:
- Gregor Anderluh (National Institute of Chemistry, Ljubljana) - Protein nanopores
- Agnieszka Chacinska (iMol Institute Warshaw) - Mitochondrial protein import
- Veerle Janssens (KU Leuven) - Signaling in disease
- Dietmar Manstein (Medical University Hannover) - Contractile proteins
- George Garinis (University of Crete, IMBB-FORTH) - Genome stability
- Lumir Krejci (Masaryk University Brno) - Genome stability
- Rob Leurs (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam) - Photopharmacology
- Sandra Macedo-Ribeiro (i3s Porto) - Structural biology
- Andras Nagy (Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute, Toronto) - Allogenic cell transplants
- Laszlo Nagy (Johns Hopkins University) - Epigenomic regulation
- Agnieszka Robaszkiewicz (University of Lodz) - Single-cell transcriptomics
- Xavier Salvatella (IRB Barcelona) - Intrinsically disordered proteins, drug development
- Michele Vendruscolo (Cambridge University) - Protein structure/function prediction
- Markus Zweckstetter (MPI-NAT Göttingen) - Protein NMR
The registration and abstract submission site will open on March 15th.
Early registration is before June 15th 2026; Abstract submission is before May 15th 2026.
According to the traditions, Diamond Congress Kft (https://www.diamond-congress.hu/) will help us in making this conference a success.
Please come to Debrecen and bring as many colleagues with you as you can!
On behalf of the organisers, we wish you all the best
